Composite Bonding
Constant Dental Care
Even if you do your best to keep your teeth clean and healthy, you’re still prone to the occasional cavity or chipped tooth. Fortunately, there are solutions to these problems. One of which is composite dental bonding. For Dr. Willer Constant, DDS, and Dr. Tessie Jacob, DDS, it’s a straightforward procedure that can give you a beautiful smile
What Is Dental Bonding?
Composite bonding is the process of applying a tooth-colored durable plastic coating, or composite resin, to the surface of your teeth to restore their appearance. This versatile procedure fixes chipped or cracked teeth, fills in cavities, and reshapes teeth.
Dental Bonding Process
The procedure for composite bonding requires little to no preparation. Anesthesia isn’t necessary unless the bonding is for filling a cavity. To start, your dentist will use a shade guide to match the color of the resin with the natural color of your teeth. This way, the dental bonding will perfectly blend in.
First, the tooth’s surface is lightly abraded, and a conditioning liquid is applied to allow the resin to stick easily. If there is any decay, your dentist will use a drill to remove it. Next, your dentist will mold the composite resin around your tooth, shaping it to match the surrounding teeth. Then, the resin is hardened using a special ultraviolet blue light or laser to bond it to your teeth.
Caring For Composite Dental Bonding
Caring for teeth with composite bonding is as easy as caring for your natural teeth. You need to practice good oral hygiene, brushing and flossing your teeth as usual. However, because the dental bonding material is made from composite plastic, it can chip easily compared to enamel. So try to avoid chewing ice, hard candy, your nails, or objects such as pens and pencils.
Composite bonding is also prone to staining. Therefore, be wary of how often you consume food and substances that stain your teeth, such as coffee, red wine, tea, and cigarette smoke. In particular, avoid staining food and drink altogether for the first 48 hours, especially after a cosmetic dental procedure.
Composite Bonding Cost
What you’ll pay for teeth bonding varies depending on how many teeth undergo the process. On average, the cost is $300 to $600 per tooth. Many insurance plans will cover most of the cost, especially if the procedure is for restorative reasons such as filling a cavity.
